Explore Wai

Wai is located on the Krishna river was a town of some prominence in the days of the peshwas. Wai has been cultural centre. A few kilometers from wai on a hill, 4650 feet above sea level is the temple of Mandhardevi Kalubai which is more than 400 years old. In more recent times, some 300 Bollywood and Marathi movies have been filmed in Wai.


WAI has the epithetic name Dakshin Kashi because of the cities mores than 100 temples. It is also famous for its 'Ghat' on the backs of river Krishna and temple of Dholya Ganpati.


Wai is located 35km north from the city of Satara and is surrounded by the mountainous region of the sahyadris. Dhom dam west of the wai was completed in 1982. Wai is also an educational and cultural centre and tourist place.

Ganpati Temple

Temple is situated in ganpati aali ghat in wai.In front of this temple there is kashi vishveshvar temple.The large statue of ganapati is made from single black finished stone and from the same stone the nandi statue is made in kashi vishveshvar temple. The temple was build in 1762 by shri ganapatrao bhikaji raste.

Nana Phadnavis wada

Nana, being the Peshwas Phadnavis transcribed and maintained their documents of accounts and administrative letters in the ancient Modi script. These documents, known as the famous Menavli Daptar were preserved in this Wada at Menavali.

Menwali Ghat

Menawali is a village about 3km from Wai in Satara district and is known for a Peshwa era Wada(Fortified Mansion) built by Nana Fadnavis, the great Maratha statesman of the Peshwa period

Kalubai Temple

Mandhardevi temple was constructed during the reign of Maratha King Shivaji Maharaj.The name Mandhardevi is a combination of two deities, God Mandeshwar and Goddess Kaleshwari. The temple is surrounded by the serene atmosphere. The temple was named Mandhardevi since it is located on a hill where sage Mandhar used to reside.

Dhom Dam

Dhom Dam is an earthfill and gravity dam on Krishna river near Wai in state of Maharashtra.

Table Land

Table Land highest point in Panchgani at 4,550 ft above sea level. This volcanic platue is Asias second longest mountain plateau after tibetan platue.
